Crafted By Calvin Venus
My name is Calvin Venus; I'm an Englishman living in America, a Houston-based producer/engineer owner a full-service, private recording studio.
My love for music started in my grandmother’s living room in South London, where a dusty stack of vinyl records lit a spark in me around ten years old. Her collection was a beautiful mess of genres— calypso, reggae, soul, funk, and Jazz. I didn’t know it then, but my gran was my first influencer.
By eighteen, I was a pro DJ, spinning sounds that moved people in London’s west end. In my twenties, I stepped behind the board, chasing the magic of production— mesmerized how a raw idea becomes a living, breathing song.
After 25 years in the music industry I have billboard number 1’s in Gospel, Hip Hop and Country album charts. Today, I specialize in crafting music that may fit into a few boxes—rock that aches, gospel that growls, hip hop with heart, jazz with edge. I work with artists who have stories to tell and something stirring in their chest. Together, we set the tone and craft the sound that feels alive.
ToneCrafters is where that magic happens. I bring the same curiosity and care to every session—tracking, mixing, or mastering—so the final result speaks loud and clear: this is your sound, fully realized.
I would have never dreamed that a former Ministry of Sound nightclub DJ from London would progress to owning and operating his own private recording studio facility in Houston, Texas. I consider it a blessing to create Billboard charting music across several genres for artists and producers like you and the hunger to do more never ceases.
Im a ToneCrafter who believes that you are a ToneCrafter. My ministry is sound, and your music is my mission.
What they say about me…
There are few people whom I've worked with, that are as invested in my music as Calvin is. When I work on a project with Calvin, he truly cares about the product. He makes me feel like he is learning just as much from me as I am from him. When I'm in the Safehouse space, I'm not afraid to suggest anything; even if it feels stupid. Calvin is not just an audio engineer; he's a member of the band. We're all in this together. We all want it to sound beautiful.

Authentic, live, organic, creativity and exploration without over repeating the familiar process, kinda minimal (?) in a good way. The thing I appreciate most is how we can talk through ideas instead of having to have everything lined up, ready to record as soon as I get there You’re hands on, personally invested, encouraging, excited to figure out the best individual approach
