What’s up Doc? Well, every now and then, life hands you a moment that feels bigger than your résumé… bigger than the hours spent crafting mixes in dark studios, teaching signal flow to the next generation, or shaping tone until it lands just right.
Opening night at Doc’s Jazz Club November 15th was one of those rare legacy moments for me.
Nestled in the heart of Houston’s Rice Village—right behind the newly transformed Lee’s Den—Doc’s is more than a jazz club. It’s a new cultural heartbeat. A room intentionally built for sound, storytelling, and soul. A place where nostalgia meets modernity, where swing brushes up against Latin grooves, and where vintage standards share a stage with modern neo-jazz fusion.
And I had the honor of tonecrafting its very first night of sound.

From the moment I stepped behind the console, I knew this wouldn’t be an ordinary gig. The room has that rare energy—warm, intimate, and alive. The kind of space where a trumpet solo hangs in the air long enough to become a memory.

At A SafeHouse Studio, I get to sculpt records with intention—recording, mixing, and mastering artists who trust me with their stories. As a professor in the Music Production and Audio Engineering programs at Houston City College, I teach students how to think, listen, and create with purpose.
But live sound?
That’s where theory meets instinct.
Where tone shaping becomes real-time alchemy.
Where a room full of people gets to feel what I feel when I chase the perfect sound.
Standing in Doc’s on opening night, all those worlds aligned: the craft, the community, the education, the pulse of a brand-new stage officially coming alive. Ahhh im getting rather romantic about this aren’t I?! lol
